Community Development Projects Uganda| Affordable Volunteering

Volunteers wishing to get involved in one of our Community Development Initiatives (CDI) will work as part of a team dedicated to a particular project pertaining to one of our main program areas: Education, Women Empowerment, Youth Development, and Environmental Conservation.  These volunteers have the chance to interact directly with the community by preparing and coordinating workshops and activities with local counterpart organizations, community groups, government agencies, and NGOs whose goals are closely related to those of BoHU.  They are also actively involved in the execution of educational training workshops and project monitoring and evaluation.  BoHU’s Community Development Initiatives provide volunteers the unique opportunity to continuously improve program parameters and best practices.  Our programs are constantly enriched by the participation and insight of volunteers with a wide range of experience and educational backgrounds.

You will have the opportunity to try different roles and projects, dependent on your interests and skills. These volunteer opportunities do not require specialized skills (although these would be an advantage), and we accept volunteers for both short and long-term placements, all the year round. Volunteers certainly gain an amazing life experience from their participation in our placement program. On first arrival, most volunteers sample all the projects before selecting the tasks that suit them best.

Amy

The first few days of your placement will be orientation and adjusting to Ugandan life. After this initial period, your placement work will begin. The type of work you are involved with will be dependent on your interests, abilities, level of experience as well as your comfort levels.

One of the advantages of the Community project is that you are not limited to one job role and will have the opportunity to ‘sample’ other roles during your placement. To become involved in another projects simply inform a member of staff who will happily make any necessary arrangements.

Volunteer work side by side the locals’ on-going brick construction and water building projects, youth projects, healthcare outreaches and women empowerment projects in the community. Volunteers needed for manual labor jobs working alongside skilled and unskilled local workers.

Free- Tailor Made Volunteer Programs in Africa

The idea behind our free-tailor made volunteering is simple but effective. You tell us your skills and interests and we find you a volunteering position that matches with your education, skills and interests. Usually, this only has to take three to five days. (No Program fees, No Accommodation fees, No Food fees) it’s totally a free culture and skills exchange program. You just share your skills, interests with the local community; they share their food and accommodation with you!!

How?

Instead of advertising a volunteering position to you, we advertise your skills to our projects. You tell us about your education, employment history and interests and our partners around Africa find you a volunteering position which enables you to draw upon these skills. We maintain an extensive network of projects and enjoy the full support of the local community in order to achieve high quality placements.

Why?

It just makes more sense to have volunteers doing things that they are good at. As a volunteer, you are a resource of development. In order to give you every chance of maximizing your contribution to development, you must be placed effectively. In order to be placed effectively, you need to be working in an area that fits your experience.

What skills are relevant?

Almost all university degrees or college status can be applied to development. Even if you are still an undergraduate, the knowledge you possess has practical applications. Almost all professional backgrounds can be made useful to development. If you have other skills and interests, in many cases they can also become effective tools of development.

If you want to find out how your knowledge and skills can be useful: contact us- info@govolunteerafrica.org

Tell us about your qualifications, your employment history and any other skills you possess.  We will help you discover how your abilities can be made relevant to development in Africa.

Based on the information you provide us with, we will find you a suitable volunteer placement.

This really is the most effective way to volunteer and it does not cost you anything to find out what you could be doing. So pick up the phone or write us an email.

At the end of the project August 2015, your contribution would have changed the lives of about 1000 community dwellers of Kasala and surrounding villages who would be coming to the clinic for medical treatment, antenatal care, HIV/AIDS support and many other medical support.

By building a clinic in Kasala, you can help the local people get the healthcare services they deserve. The overall health of the community members will also improve. With new constructed clinic, diseases such as typhoid and diarrhoea will begin to lose their grip and infant mortality rates will improve.

You can help build a clinic even if you have never picked-up a hammer before. This new BoHU volunteer vacation program offer developmental volunteers a free chance to travel to Uganda and start and construct a clinic with a team of friendly like-minded international volunteers alongside the local community. This unique opportunity lets you get your hands dirty and actually see what a difference you’ve made before you head back home. But, don’t think it’s all about hard work.
