Village Support Network Uganda- exists to address the constant threat of malnutrition and lack of food security for the Buikwe Village Communities in Uganda, Village Support Network Uganda (VSNU), a locally run charitable organization is fundraising to finance the development of a sustainable local community farm. The eventual vision is to be able to provide food and additional income to fund the full operations for a school (Hamilton Buikwe Nursery and Primary School) for children and to address the nutritional and medical needs of the most vulnerable members of the communities. Currently we can accept gifts through our Ugandan address; however your contributions will not be tax deductible.
Mission:
To help the rural based community members who cannot access one US dollar a day, fight hunger, poverty, and teaching families to have safe environment such safe water, pit-latrines rubbish pits, plate stands clearing water spring sources and to start Family income projects.
Volunteering:
Its primary goal is to bring people within Buikwe and the surrounding villages together to help those members of the community in need. Mr. Mulamira has managed to mobilize members from Buikwe and the surrounding 7 villages into a community self-help group of 250 Members. This organized group in addition to the international volunteers spend their time to help run the Hamilton Buikwe Nursery and Primary School as well as avail themselves to participate in community self-help projects in the afternoons. Such projects include, digging latrines, sanitation facilities, composting pits, building and repairing homes, making bricks, building plate stands, fences and village banking projects.
We create a learning, inspiring and research environment experience, availing opportunity to both local and international volunteers. Volunteers from Canada, USA, News-Zea-land, Ireland, Norway Australia, have had a wonderful learning experience
working hand in hand with FAMILY Community based groups through VSNU Community Outreach program.
Volunteer in Buikwe District:
We work with community members to improve on: Water and sanitation,
Food and Nutrition, Community adult education, Family income development initiative, Child development & education, esp. (girl child), Sports education.
You stand a big chance if you have one of such qualifications to be hosted.
Costs:
We are looking for self-supporting volunteers who can bring their expertise in the communities we serve.
Volunteers are request to contribute: USD$ 430 per month towards their Food (3 meals), Accommodation, Laundry, electricity and ground support.
